Instructional Model Tools for Implementation

What is an Instructional Model?

Define Instructional model

An instructional model is a comprehensive framework of effective teaching practices that results in increased student learning. The framework offers educators, administrators, students, and parents a common language of instruction in order to communicate about educational excellence.

Self Reflection Tool
This self-reflection tool can help a district/school better understand the where they are at in the develpment of an instructional model.

ESU 8 has shared a format housing information about the various models of instruction.

Why Do I Need An Instructional Model?

An instructional model provides teachers and administration with a common language. A common language is a tool of master practioners in any profession used to used to facilitate effective communications about the essential concepts and practices of a profession. Consensus within a group of practioners on specific meaning is used to provide feedback for improvement of proficiency and deepening of understanding of the elements of instruction that will lead to the success of all learners.

3:56 minute video: Dr. Rober Marzano explains the power of a common language of instruction as a foundation for improving teaching and learning. This video does contain information and recommendation specific to the work of the Marzano Research Laboratories.

How do we choose an Instructional Model?

What Are My Choices?

Two models were selected by NDE as potential choices for selection of an instructional model. Schools may chose one of these, create their own or blend their ideas with these models.

Which One Should I Choose?

A graphic to support the initial selection of an Instructional Model. This tool will help districts begin conversations and considerations in regard to where they are in the process.

Wikispace with information about the Marzano and Danielson Frameworks. This provides tools to help districts look at the two models and make decisions about the Instructional Model the school district may wish to select and/or provide guidance toward development of their own.
